I hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend as much as I did, dear readers. Now that summer is officially here, I wanted to bring you some wardrobe inspiration for all your big plans. I’m starting off with style guides for one of my favorite summer activities: concerts! We have some amazing venues in the DMV for all types of concerts. From country to classical symphonies, I’ll be here to tell you how you can look great on a dime for all your summertime entertainment.
Let’s start with my personal favorite summertime concerts. Nothing says summer like a good old, down home country concert. Toward the end of this month, I will be heading to National’s Park for the Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line concert. Is anyone else going? I cannot tell you how excited I am for this one! With it being the middle of July, there are a few things to consider when dressing for the occasion. You’ll want to choose your fabric carefully; I try and always reach for light cotton. It’s breathable, feminine and definitely ties into the country vibe. Colors like crisp white and ivory are classics for the country culture. Think a lace or cotton sundress. I found this maxi skirt at a thrift store last year for $6.00. The print is very rustic and allows it to be matched with a plethora of different colors. I paired it with a $1.98 camisole and $6.98 J Crew flip-flops from Glebe Goodwill. Now that’s an affordable outfit (minus the Dior sunglasses of course!)
Jorts are a country concert staple, too. This is one place where destroyed denim is unquestionably acceptable: the more holes, the better. For your accessories, a bandana used a head scarf will give your style a bit of southern twang. I also love the look of stacked leather or hemp bracelets, too. Shockingly, you won’t catch me in boots with my country get-up. I just can’t take the heat in them! I usually wear a flat sandal or a comfortable wedge in a brown or nude.
If you’re into something more along the lines of classical music, there are plenty of ways to achieve a sophisticated style on a budget. A solid color maxi dress with wedges and a statement necklace will serve you well in the easy listening section. I just found this striped maxi skirt at the Columbia Pike Goodwill for $5.98 and paired with a thrifted black sandal and basic black tube top. Monochrome and maxi are always a classy choice!
If the maxi isn’t for you, a skinny-cropped pant and bold printed blouse makes for a classy look. Something like a sheer chiffon with a sleek cropped pants is the perfect sophisticated style. For your accessories here, I love the look of a bold cuff bracelet or popping dangle earring. It elevates your style without being too much. Bangles can get sticky in the heat and frankly, annoying! But, the cuff gives you the eye-catching shine without the clanking. It is the perfect concert accessory in my book.
Tune in tomorrow to see how you can dress on a budget for your hipster music festivals and hip-hop throw downs!
