Lending a helping hand to Pakistan – Bashir Dawood

Bashir Dawood

Ever since the turn of the century, things have been turbulent in Pakistan. From natural disasters such as earthquakes to terrorist attacks to political instability.  The country made international headlines, and for all the wrong reasons.  Such unfortunate events have displaced many people across the country. Several have lost their loved ones while others continue to live in poverty without access to necessities such as food, medicine, and education. The Bashir Dawood foundation was started in an attempt to help the country and its citizens get back on their feet

Disaster relief provided by the Dawood foundation:

The Dawood foundation was founded by the husband-wife duo Bashir and Mariyam Dawood in the year 1960. The foundation has been instrumental in setting up relief camps to help deal with the aftermath of various natural disasters from floods to earthquakes.  Thousand of affected families have greatly benefitted from the aid provided by the Dawood Foundation. Many volunteers supported by the Dawood foundation through various means have been pivotal in assisting relief efforts over the years.

Improving medical infrastructure in Pakistan:

The backbone of any strong country is quality medical infrastructure. The Bashir Dawood foundation certainly understands that and has been working tirelessly over the ears in improving equipment used by medical universities across the country. Some examples include:

  • Providing operating rooms: There are several top-notch surgical suites in the Aga Khan university that are endorsed by the Dawood Foundation. These surgical suites are world-class and offer treatment for a variety of conditions. These provide room for physicians and doctors to operate with improved efficiency and thus improve the general standard of living inside the hospital.
  • Refractive laser suite: Aga Khan University launched a refractive laser suite in the year 2016 to help in the treatment of patients with visual disorders. The main objective of the machine is to correct irregularities in the shapes of the corneas. These irregularities are primarily responsible for loss in vision. Under normal circumstances, patients wishing to receive treatment would have to travel outside Pakistan but the Dawood foundation ensures that patients save both expenses and time.
  • Advanced neurosurgery equipment: Thanks to the donations by the Dawood foundation several top-notch pieces of equipment such as NeurobioticExoscope, the Pentero microscope, and deep brain stimulation devices. These devices, normally available only in western countries, are available to the citizens of Pakistan thanks to the efforts of the Dawood foundation.

Final words:

The Dawood foundation believes in the motto of “compassion, empathy, and solidarity”. The foundation is committed to providing relief to victims not only inside Pakistan but also beyond Pakistani borders. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Bashir and MariyamDawood, many people inside Pakistan have benefited from their philanthropic efforts.
