Selin Sakarcan – Making Running a Daily Part of Your Fitness Routine

Healthy lifestyle

Running is an excellent exercise for people of all ages. If you do not have the time to work out or even go to the gym, you can go for a morning or even an evening run to stay healthy. Marathon runners practice running every day. It is a great activity to do outdoors; however, in the age of the coronavirus pandemic, it is important for you to stay safe when you get ready to run.

Selin Sakarcan is a widely respected and credible podiatric surgeon in Pennsylvania. She is a business owner and currently making a non-profit organization called Back on My Feet in Connecticut. Besides being a surgeon, she is a marathon runner and an athlete who loves taking part in various sports.

According to her, when it comes to running during the pandemic, you need to embrace safety precautions and maintain social distancing with others when you are outdoors. Given below are some of the key safety tips she recommends everyone to follow when they are outdoors running-

  1. Invest in face masks that allow you to breathe– You should always buy face masks that permit you to breathe freely. It is important for you to wear a mask not only for your own protection but also for protecting other runners and people you pass by from the virus. There are several breathable masks available in local and online stores. Invest in good quality ones that ensure you and the others are safe.
  1. The safe social distance of at least 6 feet– When you are outdoors running in parks and other open spaces, make sure you maintain a social distance of at least six feet from the other runners. In fact, you should run on your own, if possible. However, if you are running with others and like to run in groups, keep the size of the groups small. You also have the option to change your running route where there are a smaller number of runners on it.
  1. Running shoes– Being a runner means you need to protect your feet and ankles. Invest in a good pair of running shoes for the task. Once the shoes wear off, replace them immediately, or else you will encounter pain in your feet and ankles.

According to Selin Sakarcan, along with exercise, you must ensure that you eat healthy as well. You should have a balanced diet filled with fresh food. Avoid processed food and sugar. Drinking water is important as well, so stay hydrated. Along with food, rest and sleep are advised as this helps your body recover.

Last but not least, the pandemic does not mean you focus on your physical health only; you must emphasize your mental health as well. Meditation is excellent for you to release the stress and leas a peaceful life. At the same time, meditation also helps you get the clarity of thoughts you need to remain positive during the pandemic and keep negative patterns at bay!
