If you are a dog owner, you will probably be aware of how important it is to maintain their food habit. You cannot just administer any dog food to your furry friend. Pets are like family members, and you have to be careful of their well-being as well. You might be a caring owner and is giving the most healthy dog food, but your dog is not happy with it. Your dog might be rejecting all that you are putting in the plate. If your dog doesn’t eat properly, then it is going to surely affect its health. Can you risk that? No. You cannot force your dog to gulp down the food if it doesn’t want to. The only option is to shift to a more nutritious and healthy dog food. But before doing that, be sure that the existing dog food is no longer your pet’s favorite. Is it just a phase? How will you know?
What are the signs?
Following are the signs to be sure that your dog doesn’t like the current food.
Your dog does not have the mood to eat– As human beings, we too often shy away from food that we don’t have the heart to eat. The same applies to dogs too. Every time you put the food in the plate, notice your dog’s reaction to the same. Is it shying away from the food despite being hungry? A few sniffs and that is all? That is a clear indication of your pet losing heart to its once upon a time favorite food.
Your dog is falling sick often- If your dog is eating with a half heart, then it is going to fall sick. May be the ingredient in the current dog food is no longer suitable for your dog. It might be falling sick, or its stomach is not accepting the dog food properly. Much like humans, dogs can also establish this association between the two. If they see that they are falling sick much after having a meal, then they will gradually cease having that food. The most healthy dog food will be full of nutrition that will make your dog feel good and also offer it energy.
Your dog eats slowly- Have you ever noticed children playing with their food when they don’t want to eat it? Your dog is very similar to being a child. If the dog food you are feeding now is not sitting well with the dog, then it will mean your dog is not happy with it. If it has been slow in eating the food and most of the time the food is remaining on the plate, then be sure that your dog does not like the food.
Apart from these, notice if your dog is hovering around you when you are sitting with your food. If you see that it is drooling at your food, then be sure that your dog is not satisfied with the food you are feeding it. Before your pet falls sick due to malnutrition, make sure that you have switched to a new dog food.
